Continue To Work Out For Your Salvation


Philippians 2:1-18

“…continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”


1. Read verse 1. How can one be united with Christ? (cf. Ro 6:5-8; Jn 15:5) Read verse 2. How should our union with Christ affect our relations with our fellow Christians? Read verses 3-4. What should not be our motive for action? How should we regard others? How is it possible to consider others better than ourselves?


2. Read verse 5. How can we imitate Jesus? Read verses 6-8. Who is Jesus Christ? What was his attitude? What are the marks of his humility? Of his obedience? Why did he do these things?


3. Read verses 9-11. How did God bless Jesus' humiliation? What should be the attitude of all people and our attitude toward Christ? What do we learn here about God?

 4. What does the word, “Therefore” refers to (12)? What must they do, and with what kind of attitude (12b)? What does “work out your salvation” means? 

5. Why should we work out for our salvation with fear and trembling (13)? What is God's good purpose? (3:21; Ro 8:28-30) Why should there be no complaining or argument (14-16)? How can we shine like stars in the universe?

6. For what would Paul even sacrifice himself (17,18)? How was Paul a good example to them to rejoice in the midst of suffering? (18) What can we learn about a shepherd’s life from Paul?
